FAQ

Staying inside the Wuzhen West Scenic Zone (over ¥500/night) lets you enjoy the quiet ancient town at dawn and the night views, ride the shuttle bus for free with your room card, and have your luggage delivered straight to your guesthouse. Staying outside the scenic area (¥150–400/night) is budget-friendly, but note that tickets are only valid for the day and become void once you leave. Lodging inside the Wuzhen East Scenic Zone is cheaper, but the facilities are more basic.
Wuzhen is mainly divided into two scenic areas: East Scenic Zone (East) and West Scenic Zone (West). The West Scenic Zone ticket costs ¥150 per person. It's best known for its night views, features unified management and excellent facilities, and represents the essence of Wuzhen. The East Scenic Zone ticket costs ¥110 per person and retains more of the original residents' daily life, offering a more rustic and authentic atmosphere. The best value is the combined East Scenic Zone and West Scenic Zone ticket at ¥190 per person, saving you ¥70 compared to buying them separately. Note that the combined ticket is only valid on the day of purchase, so if you're short on time, prioritize West Scenic Zone. If you stay at an accommodation inside the West Scenic Zone scenic area, you can enter and exit West Scenic Zone unlimited times during your stay using your room card and ID, without needing to buy another ticket.
Wuzhen's cuisine belongs to the Hangzhou style, emphasizing fresh, sweet, and glutinous flavors. Top three must-tries: Scholar's Lamb Noodles (located next to Zhaoming Academy, featuring a rich, dark broth with tender lamb), Dingsheng Cake from Jinji Pastry Shop (soft, sweet, and auspicious), and Steamed White Fish (wild fish from the West Scenic Zone waterways with delicate, tender meat). For snacks, shredded radish cakes, Wuzhen soy sauce duck, and boat rice dumplings are all worth trying. To experience a local breakfast, head to the Water Market for the "morning tea" experience and try Jiangnan breakfast staples like fried dough balls and mini wontons.
First, never trust pedicab drivers on the street who claim they can get you into the scenic area for free. Wuzhen has strict ticket controls and there is no such thing as a "back door." These touts usually take you to the undeveloped Nanzha or Beizha areas, which offer a poor experience. Second, pets are not allowed inside the Wuzhen scenic area, but you can arrange pet boarding at the West Scenic Zone Visitor Service Center. The paths inside the scenic area are mostly flagstone, so wear comfortable flat shoes. Also, try to avoid holidays and weekends—weekdays offer a much better experience. Finally, for great photos, visit popular spots early in the morning (6:30–8:00 AM) or after 6:30 PM to avoid the crowds that peak between 9:30 and 11:30 AM.
Yes. Both the West Scenic Zone and East Scenic Zone visitor service centers offer convenient luggage storage. At the West Scenic Zone Visitor Service Center, the lockers are on the right side of the lobby, and the staffed storage counter is next to the security checkpoint. Rates are ¥5 per small item per day and ¥10 per large item per day (suitcases generally count as large items). Notably, if you stay at an official hotel or guesthouse inside the West Scenic Zone scenic area, you can arrange luggage delivery at the visitor center—staff will deliver your bags directly to your room for free, as it's included in your room rate. This lets you enter the park hands-free without dragging a suitcase over the stone paths. When checking out, you can also arrange return delivery at your guesthouse front desk, and your luggage will be sent to the pickup point at the exit.
